Sophie is to visit in Dresden and finally we got a chance to see us. Since she is also back in Germany, she also started university and moved to another state, we can’t see us that often. So I was glad to see her, spend some time with her and we got to catch up. So she came over and we talked, and talked, and talked. Just what girlfriends do :-)! Later we went out and bought some groceries to cook. Back home we mad paste with salmon, zucchini and tomatoes. So good! Of course we had some wine too. It was really nice and it’s good to talk to somebody who was/is in the same situation than oneself. So we could talk about how it is to be back in Germany, back home and how much we miss our American families, the kids and also the culture. Speaking about it makes it much easier but it’s just than you can’t talk to everybody about it. Probably the most couldn’t understand.

I also got to talk to Ross, Tara and the kids today. It’s great to talk to them and see them over the camera (thx to skype). The boys are growing so much and oh my gosh Ryan is talking so much!! It’s very funny. Adam was a little shy today but also fun. Seeing them like this, is like I would sit right next to them – just all our hugs and kisses are missing. But I hope we get a change to make this up when I come to visit next year!

Today I went to my first kickboxing lesson. Well it was more like a try-out. But it was very great. The workout is amazing, I was in a lot of pain but at the same time it just felt great. And it was fun too! You just use your whole body; it’s a totally new way of fitness or sport. Next week I’ll try Sky-Kickboxing. This is more like Fitness-Kickboxing, not as intense. Let’s see how this is going. But I really like the idea of doing this. It’s just not as cheap as I hoped it would be.

My parents are in town, so my dad and I got a chance to pick up my desk by Ikea. It’s great to have the desk but still it’s missing ‘his legs’ – they are still soled out, which sucks. So I need to wait more days/weeks/months. But we also got to go into another store and bought a new lamp for my living room. On the way home we had to rush, because my grandma invited the whole family for dinner (it was her birthday on Tuesday) and we still needed to change cloths. Anyway, we’re late! But it was a nice night. The restaurant was very good, great food and wine. And of course I got to see my siblings, my uncles, aunts and cousins. Very seldom those family reunions but I love them. And I guess my grandma was happy to have us all there too!

After two works of work and a lot of bringing work home it was time to go out. So I met Ise, she studies with me, at a Mexican Restaurant. We charged some appetizers, some cool drinks and a lot of first experiences from work. It was nice to go out for a few hours and catch up with her. I really need to try this more often. But I’m still very exhausted when I come home from work and usually work isn’t done by then. There are always some more things to do. But still: that’s the way I want it!!

Day of Marcel’s Birthday. Since we had a short night, I decided to sleep another few hours around 11am. At this time Marcel was visiting his mum and also his dad. Later he picked me up and we went into the city, of course having coffee by Starbucks. And we went out to dinner again. This time we went to a Czech Restaurant and had dumplings with goulash – so good!!! Then it was time to get ready, we met some other friends at a Bar to celebrate his Birthday. It was so much fun … just a great day and night. Happy Birthday Marcel!

My first week at work is behind me. And I can’t complain. I’m starting around 8am and usually don’t get out by 5pm. It’s a big change, I’m very tired when I come home and I just wane sleep. But I think I’ll get used to it – I mean I’ll do it the next three years and when I go to university I even need to get up earlier. But all in all it was a great first week. My co-workers are very nice, my boss too. I can learn a lot there. And even my boss seems to be pretty happy with my work, today he came to me and said that he needs to talk to me. Of course I thought I did something wrong, but he set down and said that he never had a student before who is so hardworking, passionate and brings so many new ideas. Seems like I have done something right …

After such a good week, my weekend should be even better. Marcel is in town, juhu! He picked me up from work and together we went to my apartment. It was the first time he saw it – actually the first time anybody saw it (besides my family). It’s still not finished, there are still so many things to do but I think he liked it :-)! Anyway, it was good to see him, we went out for coffee and dinner. Since Dresden has a Starbucks of course we went there and had Sushi later, yummy. Waiting for Danilos call, we picked him up later too and drove to a friends house. There was a small surprise BBQ for Marcel (it’s his Birthday tomorrow, but psst)! It was freaking cold but we still were sitting outside, eating food which was cold too and just getting some warm fingers from the bonfire and big candles. It was fun, at 12am we could say Happy Birthday and enjoyed some warm red wine (called Glühwein). Later Nadja, Danilo, Marcel and I went home and stayed all at Danilos apartment … remembered me on our roundtrip to Canada and to New York – good times.

Friday night (10/02/2009) I went to Ikea with my parents since yesterday I have a big (!) closet, a new table and some bathroom furniture in my apartment. I’m so excited!!! Just my desk was sold out … hopefully I don’t need to wait too long for it!

10/02/2009

Today was my first day at my new company. I met my boss a few times before and last week I already went into work, because they had to hand a project to me. So my first day started pretty early (7am) as I met my boss at the office and we drove to an event. He introduced me to the people there, told me what I have to do and just left. Great!! But actually it wasn’t that bad. I could handle it by myself and everything went well. But it was a little shock as he left so quickly and that on my first day. Anyway, as we drove back to our office we got to talk a little, which was nice. As we arrived I got to meet a few of my co-worker (some where on vocation) and saw my desk. Wuhu!!! My own desk, how exciting :-)! Never thought that something like this – just a simple desk – can make me so happy *lol*! But it wasn’t much to do, this Friday. We had together lunch and than I left pretty early. My big ‘first day’ will be Monday. Which means my boss will show me around, explain things and will introduce me to some more people. And I also need to get confident with some in-house topics. But for now I’m done and I can enjoy my first week as an official student, haha!

First day of University – how exciting! As exciting as I was, it still felt kind of normal and I wasn’t nervous at all. I meet a few fellow students right away at the train station so it was good to have somebody to talk to. It was actually a little fun, because one girl of the group is working for the other company I applied too. So we definitely had something to talk about.

Later we met at a big movie theatre and a few professors talked to us. Just general stuff, some of it was interesting and some of it just boring. But afterwards some students from higher semesters showed us the campus – which was much more interesting *lol*! We also got to try the food at the Mensa – it was okay, but a little expensive for the student budget (3€ the cheapest meal). Later we meet our tutors – two guy (on older, one end 30’s) who didn’t had to say much, weird. But I got to met more students and we got divided into to curses. All the important stuff seems to happen in the first week of university, when we also meet all the other tutors. Let’s see how this goes. But for now I’ll start with working at a new company. Let’s which me luck for the next 3 years, it will be a hard time!!

For everyone who is interested in it: I study sport management and event marketing. The college will go 3 years and is divided in theoretical phases (where I’ll go to the Campus/College) and several practical phases of internships at my company. It’s called ‘dual-studies’, if you can translate it like this. But it just means that I work and study at the same time, theoretical and practical phases will go hand in hand. And after 3 years I’ll have a Bachelor of Arts. This just by the way ;-)!
